How to Choose Where to Stay at Sossusvlei
If you are staying at one of the lodges or camp sites inside the park gate at Sesriem you will have earlier access to the dunes as the camp/lodge gates to Sossusvlei open approximately 1 hour before the park entrance gate.
There is a limited amount of accommodation inside the park and within the immediate vicinity so we would advise you book your accommodation as early as possible, up to 1 year in advance.
For longer stays we recommend booking into one of the private reserves in the Namib Desert, some are adjacent to Sossusvlei, and some are as far as 100km away, but all offer service orientated accommodation and a variety of activities. If you have visited Sossusvlei before then this may be of particular interest to you.

For first time visitors note that Naukluft camp is also situated in a section of the Namib Naukluft Park in an area sometimes referred to as the Namib Naukluft Zebra Park. Even though it shares the same park name there is no direct access to Sossusvlei from the Namib Naukluft Zebra Park. To visit Sossusvlei from here you must exit the Namib Naukluft Park (which you can only do when the park gate opens at sunrise) and re-enter the park at Sesriem. The entrance to Namib Naukluft Zebra Park is about 60km north east of Sesriem.
Inside Sossusvlei National Park
For early access to the dunes at Sossusvlei you should stay at one of the Sesriem camp sites or Sossusvlei hotels inside the park gate. (There are currently 2 lodges and 2 campsites inside the park entrance).
If your budget doesn't quite stretch to two nights in the park, also consider spending one night inside the park and one night at one of the more budget friendly options outside the park for one night to make the most of your budget and time when visiting Sossusvlei.

Accommodation near Sossusvlei
There are a variety of alternatives within a short drive of the entrance to the park at Sesriem, from camping and self-catering to luxury lodges. Many are also beautiful locations in their own right and worth staying a night or two just to soak up the beauty and atmosphere of the Namib Desert landscapes.
As a general rule the closer to Sossusvlei the more expensive the accommodation.
