Kulala Wilderness Reserve
The privately owned and managed Kulala Wilderness Reserve borders with the Namib National Park, home to the famous red dunes and Sossusvlei.
Lodges in the Kulala Wilderness Reserve offer guided excursions into the dunes at Sossusvlei via a private access gate which means that you will likely be the very first people to arrive in the dunes in time for sunrise.
If you prefer to drive yourself into the dunes then the main access gate into the park at Sesriem is just a 15km drive.

The Kulala Wilderness Reserve came into existence in 1996. After years of rehabilitation from subsistence farming, when the most common animal to be spotted was a goat, there are now many desert-adapted wildlife species seen regularly on the Kulala Wilderness Reserve and hardly a game drive goes by without spotting the iconic oryx or gemsbok for which the Sossusvlei area and Namibia in general is well known.
There are many small desert dwelling creatures on the Kulala Wilderness Reserve and other desert adapted animals you will likely see on your excursions, or maybe even from the decking on your chalet or villa, include ostrich and springbok.
Sossusvlei and the surrounding area is best known however for the spectacular Namib Desert landscapes rather than for the wildlife and all the accommodation in Kulala Wilderness Reserve offers amazing desert views from the comfort of your Sossusvlei "home" at Kulala Desert Lodge or Little Kulala Camp.
